While I’m sure I’m not the first death knight to do so I did want to show it can be done, and not at the expense of the many other things you want to do in game. This weekend I gained the title Salty Dedbitt.

For the non-fishing out there Salty is a title you earn by completing the achievement Accomplished Angler, which is done by completing all but two of the fishing achievements in the game. I had been working on this casually, but to be honest I had been focused on my cooking achievements more. Then I noticed I was closing in on the title and got more proactive about it.

Sunday I won the Booty Bay fishing contest, completing Master Angler of Stranglethorn and getting my beloved fish trinket back. I had won the contest before on my old character, and [Hook of the Master Angler] saw me through many an Serpentshrine Cavern run.

After that I decided to get as close to the title as I could. I did Northrend Angler, which was quick and easy, and then finished up The Coin Master, getting a [Titanium Seal of Dalaran] for my efforts.

That left me with only [Mr. Pinchy], which I figured would take some farming. However, my dumb luck holding for the day, I fished him up within half a dozen pools and got the pet on the first wish, thus completing Mr. Pinchy’s Magical Crawdad Box and gaining my new title.

So yes, a death knight starting out with a fishing skill of 1 can get the title and it can be done part time, given enough luck and/or time (less of one means more of the other). I’m not going to be putting up my pole any time soon, though. In addition to fishing being my source of my favorite buff food, [Dragonfin Filet], I still need a fishing hat and boots and there’s a gnome sized [Giant Sewer Rat] waiting for me in the Dalaran sewers. Maybe I’ll be more attractive to him now that I’m not a bland Dedbitt.

After seeing the attention we’ll get when we first enter PvP with the That Takes Class achievement I wanted to see what other achievements would be targeting us. I found a couple more, but the good news is they don’t have to kill us over them. That isn’t to say that in a battleground the other side won’t do the achievement and then kill us, however.

Let It Snow is a Winter Veil achievement which has you use [Handful of Snowflakes] on other players. Unlike the PvP achievement, however, you need a specific combination of both race and class. This will make the right type of player character even more rare and popular. For us orc death knights that get the honor. Expect to get snow blindness when you go out to kill The Abominable Greench.

The second achievement is Fistful of Love. Despite its name it isn’t PvP based either, in fact it is the Love is in the Air version of Let It Snow. You use [Handful of Rose Petals] on specific race/class combinations. This time around it is human death knights who get the love. Just hope your allergies don’t start to act up.

So if you want to be real popular once a year roll a human or orc death knight. Us gnome death knights will be in the corner, continuing to be ignored by everything from the cinematics to now achievements.

I was looking over PvP achievements this weekend. I went back into battlegrounds to complete G.N.E.R.D. Rage, part of the Hallow’s End holiday. That’s when I noticed something disturbing for those first PvP death knights.

The basic PvP achievements can be completed with just a few battleground games, except for one. That Takes Class requires a killing blow on each class, including death knights. Right now every PvPers’ achievement looks like the one picture above and will remain so until after expansion. The first death knight spotted in a battleground is going to be oh so popular!

What really makes this bad is that you need to get a killing blow, not just an honorable kill, to complete the achievement. So instead of half of the opposing Warsong Gulch team being satisfied with your first death they are going to keep gunning for you until you’ve died at least 10 times, probably more (I’m sure it’ll be fun killing off the new “hero” class for a while). Now imagine if you’re the only death knight on your team in Alterac Valley.

So however boring doing instances and heroics to build up raid gear might get, maybe we shouldn’t all rush to Lake Wintergrasp until the class profiling has settled down some.
