Death Knight Leveling Builds (68-80) – Patch 3.1

Death knights get to open up even more at level 68. Blood starts really pumping up the damage, Unholy gets even more AoE and some damage help from the blood tree, and Frost is finally a viable leveling build.

Blood Leveling – 51/0/20

Rotation: Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Heart Strike x2, Death Strike, Runic Dump, Death Strike, Heart Strike x4, Runic Dump

  • Simple rotation
  • Best self healing
  • Fast mount
  • Best for soloing elites
  • No special AoE abilities

Unholy Leveling – 10/0/61

Rotation: Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Scourge Strike, Blood Strike x2, Runic Dump, Scourge Strike x3, Runic Dump

  • Best DPS in AoE situations
  • Permanent ghoul pet
  • Fast mount
  • Fast run speed
  • Dependent on ghoul for best DPS rating

Frost Leveling – 2/52/17

Rotation: Icy Touch, Plague Strike, Obliterate, Blood Strike x2, Frost Strike, Obliterate, Frost Strike, Obliterate x2, Frost Strike

  • Haste buff
  • Reduces target’s attack speed
  • Longer range Icy Touch pulls
  • A strong AoE hit, but on cooldown
  • More attacks ignore armor
  • Increased DPS on low health targets
  • Fast mount

    I have to say I’ve levelled as a frost DK, full tank build and it’s been fine. Maybe not as fast as blood or Unholy at some points, but Elites are easily soloable with heart strike and damage mitgation cooldowns.
    I even managed to solo the 5man dragon quest in dragonblight, where it’s summoned down near the small outpost with the 2 troll npcs. Also for your standard “Kill 20 of these” quests as frost you can just round up 5-6 mobs at once, pop a damage reduction cooldown and Howling blast crit things to death.
    1 Min cooldown on icebound fortitude and 2 min cooldown on unbreakable armor is amazing for just grabbing multi mobs and AOEign them down.
    Frost FTW!

    So what do you mean by runic dump in the Frost and Unholy rotations. I know it might be a noob question, but I have just played my DK to 72 by hit and miss.
