Patch To Do List

Patch 3.1 is due out soon (Blizzard Trademark 2009) so I’ve been working on my patch to do list, based on the current PTR patch notes and other reports from the beta testers. For a major content patch I don’t have a lot of items to do on patch day at the moment, but that may change once the final notes are released (or I realized I missed a big update).

Read the Patch Notes!

There are typically a lot of simple questions being asked in guild and general chat concerning a patch change by people who just don’t take the few minutes to read the notes for themselves. Don’t be one of them, please.

Update your mods – be prepared to reset some preferences

As with any content patch there is a lot of code changes involved. With long PTRs most mods should be ready to go with new versions, but even so sometimes you just need to reset settings. If you haven’t updated in a while then doing so before the patch isn’t a bad idea, as the downloads can get slow on patch day.

Visit Ebon Hold trainer and gain dual talent specialization – 1,000 gold fee

It is worth noting that you would have to respec 20 times at max cost to break even with the 1,000 gold charge. If you switch specs regularly you’ll make it up, if you’re a regular DPS that doesn’t PvP much then not so much. However there is value to being able to switch specs as you like, without having to worry about glyphs. We are also a hybrid class, so being asked to tank or DPS for the occasional guild run is certainly not unforeseeable..

Respec both talent sets based on your needs (DPS and tank, raid and PvP, etc)

Figuring out talent builds based on the new patch talents in advance isn’t a bad idea. I’m working on the same thing and plan to share later.

Apply appropriate glyphs to both sets of talents – note you no longer need a Lexicon of Power

There are new glyph recipes available this patch, as well as glyph changes. Check them out from the patch notes and check with your local inscription guild mate for new options.

Convert existing flasks (2 hour duration) into two mixtures (1 hour duration)

The new 1 hour flasks are more flexible for raiding (especially if you switch roles between instances in the same night) and stack better (up to 20). The mat cost per hour is the same as well. You don’t lose anything by converting.

Dump Flint and Tinder

Or whatever you use for fire making if you do the cooking daily, they are no longer needed.

Check out the new fishing daily quest in Dalaran City

They are by the coin fountain. If you are into fishing check them out. If you aren’t and you aren’t a jewelcrafter then still check them out, free epic gems.

Visit your profession trainer for possible new recipes

Results may vary.

Save up mats for BoE craft-able gear (DPS belt and boots, tank belt and boots):

With Runed Orb being an Ulduar drop (and I believe the recipes for these are as well) you probably won’t get these made on patch day. However with the amount of [Titansteel Bar] required you definitely want to get a head start.
