Tanking Weapons Forthcoming?

It looks like with patch 3.0.8, currently on the public test realms, we’re getting real tank weapon options. The bad news is this really hurts our position when we make fun of warriors and paladins for being a bunch of shield using wussies.

These new weapons showed up on the latest builds of patch 3.0.8. Right now the mats for either items are the same as the mats for [Titansteel Destroyer]: [Saronite Bar] x8, [Titansteel Bar] x8, [Frozen Orb] x2. You may note that the screen shots from the PTR show them as being BoP. The thinking is this is an error, since all of the other Titansteel weapons are BoE. Plus the Defender uses an axe graphic but is listed as a sword, so the error theory is probably a good one.

This makes another earlier announced change for death knight tanks nice. Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle was announced earlier as being a new, two-handed only rune for your weapon that grants 25 Defense and 2% Stamina (I’m still not clear if that is actual defense or just defense rating, better the later). Originally I liked this but wasn’t thrilled, because I didn’t like the idea of my defense cap being dependent on being able to redo my weapon’s rune. Having a dedicated tanking weapon removes that issue.

    I hope with all of my heart that these weapons become BoE. I’m still trying to decide whether to drop the destroyer and pick these up or not. The parry will help offset the new rune- not to mention that we’ll be getting a couple of gem slots for our tempered titansteel helms. All in all, i’m really pleased with the changes.
