Raiding is under way for some, others are looking at raiding starting up soon. Among other things that means it is time to start farming up consumables. And lucky us, on top of learning about all new consumables available this expansion we also get to learn about what is best for our new class. So here’s a list to help you out of the top items for both tanking and DPSing death knights in raids.
Battle Elixirs
[Elixir of Mighty Strength] – Standard death knight battle elixir. Use it for tanking and DPS. DPS use is obvious. For tanks it ups your aggro and your parry.
[Elixir of Accuracy] – By the numbers the strength elixir is better, however if you only have less than 6% hit from gear then consider using this one instead. Once over 6% don’t use it, you’ll end up wasting some of the hit benefit.
Guardian Elixirs
[Elixir of Mighty Fortitude] or [Elixir of Protection] – By weight stats the extra armor is better, however if you feel you are short on health then by all means go with the health one. Note that Frost Presence won’t benefit from the armor but it may benefit from the health.
[Elixir of Mighty Defense] – This is a crutch elixir for tanks who aren’t defense capped. As soon as you are capped drop it in favor of the ones above.
Flasks
[Flask of Endless Rage] – DPS flask. It is better than the strength elixir (though not by a lot) and flask duration always beats elixirs while learning new raid content (i.e. wiping a lot).
[Flask of Stoneblood] – Tank flask. Can never have too much health.
Food
[Dragonfin Filet] – Standard food buff for death knights. There is a lot of food buff variety this expansion, but nothing beats this if you are already hit capped. This is for both DPS and tanking. With all food buffs giving stamina there really isn’t any good “tanking” food, but the bonus to aggro and parry still apply just like the strength elixir.
[Snapper Extreme] – As with the hit elixir if you are below 6% hit then use it, otherwise don’t.
Other Consumables
[Corpse Dust] – Seems obvious, but treat this like other classes treat their buff regents. Bring plenty and stock up before hand. In addition to using your own ghoul our ability to raise a fellow player helps the raid DPS when combat rezzes are unavailable or being held in reserve. Plus the other player gets to play as a ghoul!
[Runic Healing Potion] or [Runic Healing Injector] – I prefer the injectors myself, especially now that I can stock up on [Healing Injector Kit] ahead of time and make my own. As nice as Death Strike is nothing beats a well timed pot (especially if your runes are on cooldown).
[Heavy Frostweave Bandage] – I don’t care how deep you are in the Blood tree, we don’t have a heal button. So keep some bandages on you.
[Small Feast] – Okay, so not really a need item. However if you are a gnome death knight like me put this out there. By the time the others realize what you have done you will be the biggest member of your raid.
