Northrend Bound

As one may infer from my lack of posting the midnight run for a Collector’s Edition was successful. The Best Buy we visited had few pre-orders and plenty of copies, more than enough for everyone there. The next morning Fry’s had even more copies and almost no one waiting at the door. GameStop didn’t fair quite so well, I hear.

I made it out of the start area, which was nicely populated shortly after midnight. Good to see so many anticipating the new death knight class as I was. There was a lot of polish since I first played in beta. The scene after the battle at Light’s Hope Chapel was originally text only, a sheer wall of it. I also noted that the Stormwind king sends you back to Western Plaguelands. While a death knight could head straight to Outland it seems Blizzard wanted to give some the option of waiting a few levels as well.

I ended up spending the first day working on professions. I had forgotten how painful raising a gathering profession from the start was, but I was finally able to get Mining to 300. Jewelcrafting, Cooking, and First Aid are all ready for the grand master trainers in Northrend. Working on professions put me behind the leveling curve but I think it’ll pay off in the end.

I’m leveling up as Unholy which is a first for me. I must say it puts my time with a Blood spec in beta to shame, I can mow down the quest mobs without worry. Too bad my ghoul is slow to appear, I may need to modify my old habit of charging into a group of mobs on horseback.
