Tank Gear – Heroic Set

dedbitt_tank_saronite.gif

As you approach level 80 your mostly green tanking gear isn’t going to cut it, especially in heroics and raids. While the stats on the gear hasn’t change the value of the defense rating has diminished by about half between 70 and 80. So as you go through the mid and later zones of Northrend (Grizzly Hills, Zul’Drak, Storm Peaks, and Icecrown) you’ll want to collect a new tank set. Luckily for us it is possible to reach the level 80 defense cap (making you uncritable) without needing any instance drops. You’d be more impressed with this if you knew how much defense warriors get with shields and one handed weapons and I don’t go into druids and their talent for defense cap. Read more… »

Tank Gear – Starter Set

dedbitt_tank_cobalt.gif

With just one instance run and 24 [Cobalt Bar] you can get a tank set within hours of hitting Northrend. What’s more this set is just under the defense cap for level 70 (though it is worth noting that by level 80 the value of your defense ratings will have lost more than half their value). Read more… »

So You Want To Tank?

tank_fail01.gif

Of course you want to tank! There’s a tank shortage out there and you, my death knight friend, were specifically created by Blizzard to fix it. I was hearing complaints within days of expansion being released about not enough tanks being available for groups, both in the guild and for pugs. Of all the high speed level 80s in my guild none are tanks. Granted the problem is being compounded by players refusing to tank. Among those complaints were stories of warriors and paladins looking for tanks. Even one case of two paladins looking for a tank and a healer. Apparently some people have yet to get the memo about tanking, so I say we take advantage of the situation and get all the instance runs we want. Read more… »

Leveling Observations

dedbitt_glowing_altar.gif

It’s been a learning experience leveling a death knight again. For one thing I first did it in early beta, before all the abilities were even in, let alone balanced. For another I get to watch and chat with guild members doing the same thing. Read more… »

WotLK Start Information Continued

wotlk_faq02.gif

Here’s the second half of the WotLK information post I did for my guild.

Dalaran

Dalaran is the capital city in Northrend. Like Shattrath City it is open to both the Alliance and the Horde. There are separate Alliance and Horde sections of the city, entering the wrong one will teleport you out. These sections contain separate inns and portals to every major city of that faction and Shattrath City. Read more… »

WotLK Start Information

wotlk_faq01.gif

I posted this information to my guild’s forum originally to help alleviate some of the many questions we all see being asked in the early days of WotLK. With many death knights now approaching or in Northrend I figured this information will come in handy here as well.

Goals Met

icon_gryphon.gifWith a couple of hours to spare I managed to meet my personal death knight goals. I wanted to be level 70 and a grand master in all my professions (save fishing, I’ll do that later… promise…) by the end of the weekend. That puts me at a good point to join my guild mates in Northrend fun. Too bad I have a work trip all this week, hence the need fast paced goals.

Oh well, at least I won’t be too far behind my guild. In terms of the hardcore death knights I’m way behind. The first level 80 death knight dinged on Saturday and my realm’s first death knight dinged Sunday evening. Meh, I hit 80 in beta and saw most of the new content. I’m still planning on enjoying myself as I level up. Too soon we’ll have nothing but raids or PvP to keep us busy and another two years before the next expansion. Enjoy the game as a game again while you can.

Northrend Bound

dedbitt_wyrm.gif

As one may infer from my lack of posting the midnight run for a Collector’s Edition was successful. The Best Buy we visited had few pre-orders and plenty of copies, more than enough for everyone there. The next morning Fry’s had even more copies and almost no one waiting at the door. GameStop didn’t fair quite so well, I hear. Read more… »

World of Warcraft 3: The Search for (Collector’s Editon) Box

sold_out.gif

I didn’t pre-order WotLK. If I’m taking a couple of days off of work I don’t want to spend the first one plotting how I am going to punish the FedEx guy for not making me his first stop. Instead I’m heading out tonight for my collector’s edition. Read more… »
