Death Knight Warmup – Zombie World Event

As you may have seen yesterday, or read about already on deathknight.info, MMO-Champion, or WoW Insider, zombies are on the loose. And by on the loose I mean I would of completely taken over Sentinel Hill last night if it wasn’t for that meddling level 70 druid.

Long story short, there are mysterious crates in Booty Bay, Stranglehorn Vale. If you try to open one you become infected. Once infected you can be cured by Argent Crusade NPCs, located in capital cities, or any player who can cure disease (priest, shaman, paladin). If you are not cured before the 10 minute timer is up you turn into a zombie. As a zombie you can attack any player (of either faction) and any NPC. You are friendly to other zombies. Anything you attack can become infected and also turn into a zombie.

For now the problem is fairly well contained. I was able to do significant damage as a zombie to low level towns: Sentinel Hill, Darkshire, Lakeshire. I could handle the guards, turning them into zombies faster than they could kill me, and low level characters were quickly brought into the service of the Scourge. However it only took one level 70 player to undo my work when I was solo. When I was teamed up with one or more other players any equal number of non-zombie players could take us down. Not to mention getting into fun places while infected is difficult between the NPCs healing and other players doing the same.

I managed to get my zombie to A’dal, despite an Argent Crusade healer stationed right next to him/her/whatever (roof access anyone?). However A’dal was immune to attacks, as was Khadgar, so I couldn’t infect either of them. I also managed to get inside the Ironforge auction house while infected. I turned and infected several others, taking out some bank alts and infecting both an auctioneer and several AFK players. The guards took me down pretty quickly and a party pooper paladin removed handy work before it could give some AFKers a big surprise. I’m thinking a zombie raid could end up with some very interesting results.

However easy the infection and zombies are to deal with I wouldn’t let your guard down if I were you. The Scourge likes to attack in waves, the next worst than the last. Blizzard is also hinting at more to come on the forums. There are 3 weeks until WotLK launches, plenty of time for more mayhem.
