Preparing For Your Death Knight is for those players planning to switch their mains to a death knight and are willing to go the extra mile before expansion to help speed up their death knight’s development after expansion launches. These steps are by no means required if you want to level a death knight, but they do help speed up the leveling process.

Sure your death knight will have more quests than you can shake a ghoul at once you hit Outland, but why wait? There are quests which ask for items that aren’t actually quest items, which means you can gather them now and send them along to your death knight later for fast and easy XP.

A Donation of Cloth – 88,250 XP

Materials:

In the old world capital cities are a series of cloth donation quests, one for each Alliance and Horde race. The first is for wool, then silk, mageweave, and finally runecloth. That’s a total of 20 quests you can turn-in with about half an hour of traveling between cities (much faster if you can find a mage or two to help you with portals). In addition to the XP you’ll also get 1750 reputation with each race in your faction.

Cloth NPCs:

  • Clavicus Knavingham – Stormwind City
  • Mistina Steelshield – Ironforge (dwarves)
  • Bubulo Acerbus – Ironforge (gnomes)
  • Raedon Duskstriker – Darnassus
  • Dugiru – The Exodar
  • Rashona Straglash – Orgrimmar (orcs)
  • Vehena – Orgrimmar (trolls)
  • Rumstag Proudstrider – Thunder Bluff
  • Ralston Farnsley – Undercity
  • Sorim Lightsong – Silvermoon City

Blasted Lands – 50,600 XP

Materials:

These are two sets of quests. The ones for the animal parts grant buffs in addition to XP. The buffs will be both put on your character and you will receive an item which will reapply it for 1 hour. Turn-in Snickerfang Jowl last, as that gives you the strength buff and you can only have one buff at a time. The Draenethyst ones require more luck and a well geared level 70, thus they can be skipped if they are giving you problems.

Quests:

Imperfect Draenethyst Fragment is a rare zone wide drop. If you don’t get one from farming the animal parts I wouldn’t recommend putting a lot of time into finding one unless you’re just bored anyway. Flawless Draenethyst Sphere drops from Teremus the Devourer, a once every 24 hours elite dragon who patrols most of the zone. He can be soloed by a decently geared level 70. Tank types can do it easily, it just takes some time. DPS can do it if they can get him dead fast enough. He drops 3 Flawless Draenethyst Spheres and only one will get you XP, so feel free to take another soon to be death knight friend or two along.

Cenarion Expedition – 10,400 XP

Materials:

Quest:

Sporeggar – 75,400 XP

Quests:

Lower City – 11,000 XP

Quest:

Aldor/Scryer – 39,450 XP

Materials:

I’ve listed both the Aldor and Scryers quests that can be gathered up in advance but remember you have to choose one or the other, there is no efficient way to do both. As a death knight you should choose Aldor and ignore Scyers quests all together. I’ll go into that more in another post.

The Consortium – 22,600 XP
